Celebrate the opening of rifle season with a steak fry while you get to know the other hunters who will be in the field!

When: Rifle Hunting Eve

Where: The Lodge

Menu: Steak & refreshments

Located on the Grand Mesa which has the 2nd largest concentration of game in the state, we have an abundance of game, cabins for our hunters, and we limit the number of hunters; thus ensuring a great hunting experience!

Hunting area. The G R Bar Ranch borders both the Grand Mesa National (Unit 521) and Gunnison National Forest (Unit 52) Forests to the north, and joining Bureau of Land Management lands to the south. All of our land is posted. We allow no trespassers.

Hunting cabins. Hunters will enjoy the accommodation of one of four cabins; all of which are furnished with kitchen utensils, dishes, silverware, and propane light. The following cabins are available for hunting reservations:

Our 8 lakes are also available for fishing through the 3rd season, weather permitting.

Reservations. We limit the number of rifle hunters to 14 for any one season. Archery and black powder season is limited to 12, which makes for a better hunt for all concerned. Please see our 2012 Hunting Season Dates and Rates below for reservation details.

Licensure. Application deadline for licenses available by draw is midnight April 5, 2012. Hunter Education proof required to apply for or purchase any big game license if born on or after January 1, 1949. Colorado will honor all other State certificates.

Information regarding season dates and licensing is accurate to the best of our ability; however we would recommend you check the Colorado Division of Wildlife web page at www.wildlife.state.co.us to confirm and check for any changes.

Transportation. We do not permit the use of ATVs during any of our hunts which makes for a better hunt since elk in particular are pushed out of an area by the two cycle engine noise. The road to our cabins and the fishing lakes are graveled and are accessible by four wheel drive. Hunters should be cautioned that the road to Whisky Jug is not graveled.
